Are the extremely Purple caps still good... I have never looked into that but never ate the extremely Purple caps... :mushroom1:

Ya I'm with the above ...
Most Cubensis will not get purple.. They will bruise a bit Blue/Green..

The only way for them to get purple is from a larger fruit spooring all over the caps of the smaller mushrooms below..

spore deposits will do no harm. the only thing you have to be worried about, barring misidentification is that they are not also rotten. texture will be the best indicator for that.

let us also not forget that mature, very damp sporpcarps will sometimes show purple from the sopre-ladened gills through the surface of the cap, as it is somewhat translucent when moist. this can be seen in many species.

Oh i know how to identify Rotting... But just never looked into the Purple... Ive passed of soom of the biggest shrroms because of the purple... Just a mistake not looking into it sooner

they are called bird's nest fungi [for obvious reasons of resemblance]. i don't know which ones they may be.

Here are 8 perfect examples of extremely purple-capped cubes which is just nothing more than a pileup of spores on the caps of the shrooms spores disbursing and then resettling on the caps tops because there was not much wind to blow them elsewhere. They just puffed out and then resettled on the caps. This is also common when grown in terrariums after sporulating

ive eaten many purple capped cubes (From spores) theyre fine. Find them a lot in the summer.

Haha, I've eaten fresh caps with so many spores on the top, that my spit was dark purple for a few mins after. I was outside hiking while I was eating them, which is why I was able to spit in the first place.

I thank you ..But that photo is not valid for POTM.. It was taken this Summer and Nominations for POTM must be taken within a month of the contest.

I am surprised that not a single person posting here in this thread mentioned that every time you munch a cap of shrooms you are probably eating a billion spores. Each gill plate has millions of spores on them and you eat the cap you are already eating spores.
