HDPE 2 Milk / Water Jug Cakes & Spawn
    #6414656 -

First off, I am NOT a "cake" maker.
But, on that subject;

For those of you who do not have/own a PC;

Please follow along.

The melting point of HDPE 2 is said to be 110C/230F

In a PC that would be roughly 6 psi.

Water boils @ 100c/212F.

We all know PF style jars can be steamed.

Well, so can PP2 milk & spring/distilled water jugs.

While not clear as glass, they are fairy translucent.
(go look at a milk jug, to see how translucent)

You can also pierce one with an 18G needle with ease.

The point being:

I would speculate,
One could make up a (supplemented) PF substrate mixture.
(supplemented with a small amount of coir)

Rig the jug with a gas exchange filter provision.
(holes, covered with Micropore tape)

Fill a 1/2 or 1 gallon PP2 jug 1/2 full of modified PF substrate.

Steam the jug(or jugs)90 minutes.
(twice if you are ultra cautious)

Then, inoculate into substrate:
Right through the side of the jug.
Then, tape over the inoculation holes.

Gas exchange filter is easy.
Either drill a couple holes in the lid.
Or, use a syringe needle to poke a series of holes.
In the jug, itself.
Then, cover with micropore tape.

To birth such a cake, simply cut the top of the jug off.

For those who want BULK SPAWN.
I would also surmise.
One without a PC could also use the same method.
To make large amounts of Perlite spawn.
(hydrated BRF/Perlite mixture)
Which, one could use as spawn, to supplemented coir.
In trays.

This PP2 gallon jug was PC'ed @ 8psi 60 minutes.
Warning - not all lids are PP2.

I've been trying this with coffee grounds and oyster spawn recently.

I wondered whether something non-grain might work for cubies.
