thumbs down for the sports forum

It kinda bothers me that the sports forum is now listed in the main index. It wasn't so bad when it was a subforum of OTD, but its new position just doesn't seem appropriate to me. It doesn't logically fit in with the rest of the site. There are plenty of other places on the web to go to talk about sports, and it really has nothing whatsoever to do with psychedelics, consciousness, etc. A few days ago someone in the pub asked about starting a forum about cars, and several people told him exactly why that was a bad idea. Now you guys undermine those reasons by throwing another misplaced forum into the list.

Also, it's a slap in the face to those of us who petitioned for other new forums that would have been far more appropriate to the site, such as the dream forum. The dream forum was by far the best and most popular idea that ever got shot down here. Since then, I said :wtf: when the culinary forum started, and I'm saying it again now.

What are you being a prick just because you don't like what other people like? How does it harm you to have a forum on the main index which appeals to many members here?

It doesn't harm me and I don't think I'm being a prick about it. It simply doesn't fit with the main themes of this site, is all I'm saying. It made sense at a subforum of OTD because sports are "off topic" for this site. Now, when people ask for new forums about cars, or colas, or pet rats, what grounds will you have for saying no? It just looks to me like these guidelines are being selectively enforced according to the personal biases of the staff.

I think a sports forum is just as relevant as a science and tech forum and that forum has been around for about 7 years and is not going anywhere.

An idea was brought up to have a sports forum....many, many people wanted it. Many people like sports. It was made a sub-forum of OTD. It had more posts than any other sub forum, and more posts than many MAIN forums. Seemed logical to put it on the main forums list if you ask me.

As for your "dream forum"...good luck with that.

This site attracts thousands of visitors and it's a constant balancing act to try and satisfy everyone. At the bottom of every forum, there is a 'favorite forum' link. Then at the bottom of the main forum index, there is a link to 'show favorite forums'. Using this functionality, you can see only the forums you're interested in. If you don't like the sports forum, my recommendation is don't view it.

Oh and WhiskeyClone, that's kind of a broad topic... how about Coke™, Pepsi™ and RC Cola™ forums instead? :smirk:

yeah.. im suprised how well the sports forum has done.. i was happy with it being a subforum for awhile.. but as popular as it is, i think it is well deserving of a main index spot..

like Liz said.. its the most popular subforum, only 2nd to trip reports.

and why should members of this community have to find another forum to talk about sports?

the sports forum is just as relevent as OTD, Pub, Culinary, and the Science boards.

boo for you trying to take away the joy of many shroomery members

not only is the sports board great.. but ever since it was put on the main index, its attracted new posters!

as said.. the sports forum is just as relavant as the culinary forum and science technology forum...

a forum about things such as cars or dreams. are far to specific.. sports is rather wide subject.. i mean you could probably post about cars in the sports forum.... besides mysticism and paranomal is perfect to talk about your freakin dreams.. have at it... and if you dont like sports dont post there
