clone?

when you clone a shroom into a lc, are you isolating that certain strain?

I think your actually starting an isolate for a sub strain.
The strain you got going if from a vendor is just an isolation that grows in whatever geographical location with the exception of some novelty strains that are in fact either hybrids or sub strains.

As you repeat the process from the best specimens you grow from the clones you'll eventually have a genitally superior sub strain.

do you have to go through the whole process of isolating that sub strain everytime you start a grow or is thier a way to keep that strain going?

One of those LC's will stay good in the fridge for months, and by doing a G2G transfer a few times you can make that LC last a very long time.

I think what you want to do is make a master LC from the clone and start new LC from that and use them for jars.

why do you need to keep your cultures 2nd generation? what would happen if you kept making your LC from the one before?

oh, does generation mean a full cycle of growth? like making a clone LC(2nd gen.)then inoculating another substrate and fruiting it to get fruits which would be 3rd gen.? right?

'generation' really isn't an applicable term for mycology. Senescence is related to the number of cell divisions regardless of whether the mycelium has entered a fruiting cycle or not. After a couple of months of growth, a mycelial network will slow down considerably, then shortly afterward, the substrate becomes a prime site for contamination because the mycelium can no longer hold its own.

RR, you continually amaze me.

I take it to mean that making new LC from a Master LC isn't quite right. Kinda like putting a hinge on a pump handle.

The question then has to be, is there any way to prevent senescence other than starting with fresh spores once in awhile? and how many times is it ok to make LC from LC before it becomes and issue?

I have several jars that were inoculated with LC made from a LC that was made from spores. All together it's about 7 months old if you don't restart the timer for making new LC from old LC. Other jars from the same batch inoculated with SS are 98% done, LC is about 50% done. Could this be the cause? And should i keep the jars?

Thanks
JJJJJJ
