Microsoft just released their supposed "I-pod killer" called the Zune. Even with tons of money into marketing and all the free marketing that they have received, it is expected to be one of the greatest flops of 2007. It's not doing too bad at the moment, but it's questionable whether it will go anywhere.

Large sums of money put into marketing does not necessarily mean success if the consumers don't like it.

Everyone and their mother was talking about how microsoft's zune player was intentionally designed to have cripplingly limited functionality.There was this little moronic thing called DRM that microsoft chose to implement in an unprecedented level in their player.

Sony has also announced that some games will charge for online play, but it will only be specific games. I would be willing to bet that some of these games charge just as much to play just that game as Microsoft does for access to all of Xbox Live.

Microsoft wants the 360 to go the way of the dreamcast so they can sell a better console than the ps3 in 2-3 years. Just like the Nvidia/ATI and Intel/AMD duopolies realized they can make more by staggering launches instead of directly competing due to the rapid advances in technology.

It wont be hard to make a better console, considering that Nvidia's G80 graphics chip for computers is already twice as powerful as those in both the 360 and PS3.

Microsofts goal also is and always has been to make a set top 'in every home' computer like device that does everything.

Its not supposed to JUST be a gaming console. It will eventually be your EVERYTHING entertainment. They want it to be equal to a toaster, a coffee pot, whatever. Something every household has standard.

That's possible... although they may be referring to games such as Final Fantasy XI, MMO's that can be played on a console and require a subscription.

Final Fantasy XI was available on the PS2, and you had to pay Square Enix a subscription fee for it just like you did for the PC version.

To be fair, just about any manufacturer would love to do that. It's not isolated to any one or few of them or to any specific type of product.

If someone can actually compare the genesis from the late 80's to the xbox360.....then there's simply no sense in even replying to him, Moho.

I'm not taking sides on the hd-dvd or blueray. Who has the movies I WANT to see first, will have me as a customer.

Lord Of The Rings, The Matrix, and so on.

I'm going to say that the hd-dvd player, althought an afterthought and a mistake to have NOT included it in the system, is a great freakin idea.

It's the cheapest hd player on the market now!....not including the actual price of the 360.

Do yourself a favor and watch a hd-dvd flick on a hdtv. Trust me, it looks fucking amazing.

And to clarify, the hd-dvd unit will never be used as gateway to play hd-dvd based games. I think microsoft will be smarter next time around to include it in the total package right off the bat.

But am I mad that I have to pay 200 to watch hd movies on a system I laid 400 dollars on already? Yeah.
