Xbox 360 is and has been high def. 720p and 1080i AND 1080p.

And standard definition is 480i. 480p would be referring to the early generations of so called "hd televisions". Where were just EDTV. Enhanced Definition Televisions.

The cable box you receive from your cable company can act as a "tuner".

This is a good way to save a few bucks on an HDTV, but an "HD monitor" or a TV without a tuner. They are a lot cheaper and all you need to do is hook up a cable box.

And yes, X box 360 can output an HD signal, but it cannot play HD-DVDs, unless you buy another external add-on.

correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't blu-ray regularly associated with DRM? That thing that is tantamount to warning people not to be customers?

I've seen people saying that this trait may be the death of the blu-ray format... but I don't know much about what they base their claim upon.

Their corporate policy can be summarily be described as "superiority complex"

with the xbox, you pay a subscription fee to even be able to use it online. If I remember right, the online play with the ps3 has no such fee... you just need to be able to connect to the intarweb.

Just got done playing some gears of war great game. Xbox and Sony will be competing with each other for a long time. Xbox 360 isn't going to be forgotten.

I prefer computer really. One day the computer will be integrated with the TV enough and there will be no more consel games.

Well, that is unless if Blue-Ray becomes the next Betamax.

The way I kind of see things is.

- Super-hard-core gamers will own all 3, or /atleast/ PS3+XBOX360
- Hardcore will own either PS3+Wii or Xbox360+Wii
- More casual people will be inclined to go with the Wii

I think the Wii is going to do well no matter what, simply because it has a broader appeal to the kind of 'mom and pop' type gamers, the ones who dont care about having THE BEST graphics and ZOMG LOOK HOW REALISTICTHEBLOODISBQBBQ?!$ type gamers. At the end of the day, I think the Wii is going for a market which is not going to eat that much into the PS3/XBOX360 competition.

The Wii has the price point of 'oh, well -- its not THAT much money' and will be more of a 'casual' buy for alot of people, then something that will have them shelling out $600 some dollars for.

Also, with hords of mom's descending upon electronics stores to buy little jimmy and timmy a console for their birthday / Christmas / whatever, the Wii seems like a far more attractive option.

I do think Nintendo is shooting them selfs in the foot by not limiting the new Zelda to Wii, I know SOOO many people who would of bought a Wii right out the door if it wasnt for the fact they could just wait a few weeks and get it for their gamecube instead. Zelda is like Halo for the 360 -- its a game that could of /easily/ sold consoles on that title alone.

On a somewhat related note - the dreamcast rocks! I think part of it's down fall was just how easy it was to pirate games for it. Dont think you even needed a mod chip for it? My BF has one, and he just downloads and burns images for it without any problem at all. With the easy piracy it was hard for game developers to make much profit off of it.

Alteast with ps2/xbox/etc, 'modding' it to pirate games was a bit of an effort, enough to stop 'joe blow' from doing it atleast.

Some of the dreamcast games are hella'fun, great way kill an hour or two and not need to invest hours and hours and hours into a game :smile:

AMEN!!!

Btw, my stepdad just got the HD-DVD tuner for his XBOX 360. Looks pretty snazzy. I'm probably gonna watch Superman Returns tonight cause my loser-ass hasn't seen it yet (and I don't care if it sucks, Superman is epic).

PS3.... hm... friend was supposed to get one but Futureshop screwed up their orders. We'll see if it's decent.

man...alot of sony hate goin on in here.

i think yall forget just how badass ps1 and ps2 were.
don't get their other departments mixed up with their videogame department.

and before anyone gets too overworked on the price issue, keep in mind sony is losing more than $200 every time they sell a system.

here's my prediction:

xbox will turn into an OS like product for your computer. Just install it and boot into it, or windows.. Just like win95, when you got to type in "windows"... now it would be something catchy, like "xbox"... they wouldnt take a loss on the hardware, and it would be up to you on how much you want to upgrade your computer. They would even make a bunch of money selling you things like, 'official xbox motherboard'. They could sweep the pc gaming industry.

i want to get a wii, just for the zelda, maybe some old school stuff... but i dont want to pay that much for all the old games.

That seems to be the general consensus about large popular companies. I like their products. If some big company that sells TV's has a TV for me to buy, I will buy it. If video game developers continue to market their games on PS3, XBOX 360, and Wii, and I want to play those games, I'm going to buy those systems. It's not like I can go out and try to support my local video game developer, what other systems are out there?

I don't like, however, the way they put a new system out so fast. It should be called Playstation forever, and you should be able to upgrade your system as new technology comes out, instead of making a whole new unit and calling it PS 1, 2, 3..etc.

I am going to say that you are wrong, and here's why:

The XBOX360 is being marketed by a multi-national multi-billion dollar corporation. Also the predecessor, XBOX did not flop, like Sega Saturn.

The clout this company has, the resources at it's disposal, is breathtaking. I'm sure Bill Gates could easily buy the entire country of Ukraine.
