Some pink oyster pics ::Update:: 12-24-06
    #6308131 -

just a lil something my untrained hands managed to assemble.

First is a grain jar i couldn't get spawned in time so once it started to pin in vitro i just busted the glass and let it fruit. They aren't huge but i still  them.

next is some pins on a 5lb bag of aspen shavings/dust supplemented with wheat bran & gypsum.

this was just a test bag to see how well the oysters do on the saspen. so far so good. i also have enoki going on this same forumula. hopefully i can get that to fruit. I'll likely update in a few days as the babies grow.

Sweet. Be sure they get lots of bright light and FAE. It's hard to grow oysters in a terrarium for that reason. If they start to develop a coral structure, increase light. They need it bright like the diffused sunlight in your pictures.

heh ok well here it is

i had poked one hole in the bag before i decided to cut the top off

that cluster is the result of that hole.

here is how the rest turned out

clearly i haven't given them the best environment which resulted in the funny shapes. I'm in the process of planning an indoor grow chamber for a semi-bulk oyster grow(10-20 bags).

well i couldn't stand deforming the little guys any longer so i picked the bag clean and put it in the fridge until i put together something better for it. though i may just set it outside in a shady spot. the environment here in florida is still decent for now.

well i didnt plan on updating this thread but here we are.

when i made the bag of aspen shavings i made 4 bags total. one went to the pink oyster, one went to a jar of enoki, and the other two sat in my fridge unsterilized for around two weeks. when i took the bags out of the fridge they were pretty nasty. a whitish mess had deposited at the bottom in the standing water(bacteria im sure).

so i took one bag and poured it into a pot outside. i then spawned it with the cake in the first pic of this thread. i covered it up to see if it would colonize which it did. i uncovered it and two days later surprise!

so there we go. pink oyster fruiting outdoors from unsterilized aspen shavings. total time from spawn to pins was about 6-7 days.

i have started another project with the bag from earlier in this thread. i will post pics if anything comes of it.

It is a flowhood (sort of). i'm a bit tight on time atm but i can tell you its an Envirco ceiling unit filter made for clean rooms. 24x24" 99.99% at .3 microns. all i had to do was tape on a prefilter and plug it in. got it on ebay for $100 shipped. the guy was selling 4 of them, i should have bought them all. I'll share pics tomorrow.

hey an update!

These pictures show what i did with the bag of aspen from the first post in this thread.

I put a thin layer of horse poop on the bottom of a flower pot. broke apart the colonized bag and stuffed it all into the pot. i then packed in some sand to level it off. i then put an old cooking pot on it and flipped the whole thing over. 10 days later theres mushrooms growing from the drainage holes.

Here is an illistration.

and here are the real pictures

This picture was taken this morning. Notice the second flush from the other project on the left. these were both started from the same spawn  master and both are using the same substrate(though the black pot was unsterilized.

a side by side shot to compare. I doubt light was the issue. What i am guessing is the substrate in the black pot was not compacted enough to support such robust fruits. also the black pot fruited quite quickly after spawning whereas the other had much more time to assemble nutrients.

And lastly here are some pics i just took around 4:50PM eastern. The large cluster is just about ripe for dinner.

I have many more projects going so i'll be starting a Waixingren's Gourmet Pics thread pretty soon. see you guys later!

nice.

look forward to it. love seeing pictures of grows. mushrooms can be pretty beautiful sometimes - especially if their colours are as rich as that. wonder if the manure is having any effect?

Happy christmas,
Chris
