wet spots....condensation.....contamination
    #630367 -

2 of my PF tek innoculated jars have condensaion build up at the site of innoculation (where the needle touched the substrate) is this normal? they appear as just water dropplets on the side of the jars. i unscrewed the cap a bit. is this ok? i have all of them stored in a sterilized plastic container in my closet. will this keep the cakes from airborn contam.? should the lid be left off or sealed?

just a few questions i would appreciate answers to

thanks.

Small water droplets are normal. Opening the lid was a warm welcome to any possible contaminants, and should be avoided if possible. If the container is sterile, leaving the lid on it is the best idea. Having the jars exposed to free flowing air is another invitation to contamination. I'm not saying that leaving the lid off will certainly lead to contamination, but it may increase the chances of contaminants entering the jars.

well if you got a dry verm layer on top and just opened em up for a second it would probably be ok. But leave the lid on. Just see if it colonizes and remember to use a lil less water next time with that type of verm and rice.
