The Great PS3 hassle of 2006
    #6285988 -

So my buddy's been waiting for a PS3 forever... So today he finds out people are in line at Walmart for it already... He went up there and got his name on the list for the last 60gb PS3... And yet they insist that you have to stay in line... SOOO... His dad is coming back and picking me up... we're going back to walmart to pick up the son (who can't drive)... Me and the son are coming home for a while...his dad's gonna wait in line til around 7 when he has a night class to teach... we're gonna go back up there and wait for a few hours... his dad's gonna come back and spend the night at walmart and I'm gonna take the son to the methadone clinic in the morning (the reason he can't stay the night himself)...

And all I can think is... Why have a list if you still have to stand in line? What the fuck is wrong with this world?

I guess it's just a good thing for him that he has a good friend that will help him like this... And a good father...

But god damn... this is a fucking hassle and he owes us bigtime.

Any other stories of crazyness about this piece of technology that will most likely be a let-down?

The only thing I'd ever wait on line for these days is concert tickets.

That doesn't sound fun, all that just to get a gameing system before everyone else, Why doesn't he just wait until the line is gone or when the store gets the next shipment?

I guess cause he's been waiting like Cartman was waiting for nintendo wii...

He sits at home playing games all day with nothing to think about but the newest games.

Man I help him out too much.

seriously. in about two months you'll be able to walk into any random store and get a PS3 for cheaper than they are now and not have to camp out in the freezing cold parking lot at Wal-Mart. Until then he should just occupy his time with something else.

I didn't realize that things had gotten that retarded yet. I remember that they had a lot of trouble keeping up with the demand for the PS2 right after release didn't they? Anyway, I want a PS3, but if I'm going to have to wait in line for ages and pay upwards of a few hundred bucks, maybe I'll just say fuck it and get a Wii.  :strokebeard:

There was a king that always felt too high and then he fell too low
And so he called all the wise men to the hall
And begged them for a gift to end the rises and the falls
But here’s the thing, they came back with a ring
It was simple and was plainly unbefitting of a king
Engraved in black, it had no front or back
But there were words around the band that said
Just know: This Too Shall Pass

um... I'm no methadone expert, but isn't that used to get off addictive drugs like herion? It seems to me someone has an addiction problem, and all the ferver over a stupid console can't help... psychologically speaking.

Doesn't anyone else see the absurdity in not being able to camp out for a PS3 because you have a methadone appointment?

This world is truly strange, and it's inhabitants even stranger. :confusion:

I used to get really psyched up for games and new systems, but now the whole idea of it just doesn't seem as exciting anymore. New things that are more important have come into my life, I still enjoy video games, but at the same time, they're a much, much smaller part of my life now.

I dont see how people can get so excited about a new game system. I mean sure like 5 years ago I was kinda hyped when xbox/ps3/dreamcast(RIP) came out. But I wasnt nearly excited enough t ogo wait in line for, not only hours, but DAYS.

Seriously. What. The. Fuck.

I remember reading in the paper when PS2s were selling for $1000 after they first came out.

I personally will probably buy a Wii just cause it looks like a fun system. But I damn sure wont be buying one in the like first 3+ months it's out.

The thing I see wrong in this world is people sacrificing their own lives for a stupid game console.

It makes sense to have to wait in line... half the people who sign up for it probably wouldn't come through in the end. It's like selling shit online, you get 100 emails and one guy finally comes through. So, that doesn't seem weird to me.

What seems weird is that people have these crazy desires for material goods. This is just out of hand. I am of course a material person, I love buying stuff, but, this just seems abnormal.

I'm waiting in line to sell one on ebay. Check the prices. It's the only reason it's worth the wait for me. If I just wanted it to play games I definitely wouldn't be camped out in the cold.
