Installing windows on a blank HD

a friend of mine just got a new hard drive to replace one that had fried. he is missing the windows instalation disk and wants it on his comp. do any of you know if there is a way i could download a reliable instalation disk? we want windows 98 if possible, but xp is good too.
(i told him go with linux, but he didnt want to )

You should be able to download a decent copy of 98 and just boot into the install with a floppy...
For XP you can simply download an XP image that's bootable and make sure you burn it to the disk as a bootable image; then you can just boot off it.

hmmm do you know where i can get this RELIABLY?
i did a search, but am unsure of the qulaity or content of some of them.

I'd probably use BitTorrent or IRC..

but those arent usually reliable or they might come with a virus or whatnot.

Probably the best way to go is with Windows 2000, that way you can skip the whole activation headache.
There's a torrent of it here:

It's an ISO which you burn to CD and boot with. The key is in the ISO at root level, so once you've burned it to cd, just open the cd and the key will be there in a text file.
If you're not a member of Demonoid, I believe signups are open at the moment so you can simply register. If not, PM me for an invite.
Incorporating a virus into a working ISO of an OS would actually be quite tricky. You can see from the comments on Demonoid that that ISO works fine.

I have a download called Windows 9 in 1 it has 2000 to XP in different formats(home, pro, corp(no cdkey needed) it works great.
