Fine Grade Vermiculite
    #6262373 -

These assholes sent me fine grade vermiculite. I'm aware that its not that great to use because it packs too solid. Could still use this some how? Or is there a way I could add regualr chunk-style to it to make it work better?

i haven't made a brf cake in ages....i bought a hydra-pod if you know what one of those are... a long time ago..did about 12 cakes...didn't like the results..and sold it..never touching brf again..either way..I'm sure you would have success with fine or chunky verm

/found some pics of the hydra pod ..and my only brf attempt

looks like i was using fine verm  :smirk:

Fine verm works great. It also makes a better barrier at the top of the jars because the spaces between them are smaller.

I use fine verm exclusively because I sorta had a 20lb bag sitting around. That's a whole lotta verm.

I have great results using it with my BRF cakes.

That's not to say you wouldn't have better results with larger verm, but fine verm will most definitely work.

The only thing you have to think about is if you used chunky verm before your water content will be different. Fine verm holds a bit more moisture.

I think Medium works the best. The Fine I've seen is super fine... little to fine for me... Who sent you the Verm?

garden supply sent me the verm. So, for those of you who have had success witht he fine verm, is there anything different I should do in my mixing of the BRF, Verm, and water? Success stories would definitely save me much time right now. Thank you.

Just make sure that when you're spooning it into the jars, you don't pack it down AT ALL. I'm on my second grow using fine verm. My first grow was a complete success, and I'm very happy with it. This time, when I was preparing my jars, the first three of them (out of five) I shook a little after it was full to settle it. Well, now I can see that that was a mistake. They were packed too tightly, and there is almost nowhere for the myc to colonize. The other two jars that are almost finished colonizing.

I don't mind that I lost three jars though. It inspired me to research new techniques other than the regular PF Tek. I'm going to try spawning my two remaining jars to coir, and see how that works.

All of the above is complete and total fiction, and is just my pathetic attempt to fit in.
