I finally found the fine grade vermiculite (the one that is 1mm in diameter)
Is this the best to use in casing mixes? either just plain verm casing and 50/50 casing tech?
i read elsewhere that fine grade verm holds more h2o. should i use this in the brf/verm mixture instead of the coarse grade?
ty for ur help

Personally, I've used both fine and corse vermiculite in coir/verm casings, and I really don't notice a big difference between the two. Hope this helps.

Course verm is best used for casings, because it tends to hold more water. The medium grade verm is best for substrate/verm barrier. I personally stay away from fine verm bc it's messy and dosent have the water holding properties im looking for.
It's really your preference but I buy coarse verm and grind it up a little. A mix of medium and coarse works good for me. good luck

I have to agree with Frank. My friend has used both and she's never really noticed a difference in either fine or corse grade verm.
I think there's two sides to it, if a "grain" of verm can hold more water then it can keep your substrate moist. But at the same time it may harbor more chance of contaminates?
I don't really know I do know that my friend thinks that there's no real difference between the two.

Well course is ideal for making pf jars, since it creates more space between it and the other chunks. It creates pockets of air for the mycelium to breatheand move thru. But it really dosent matter, its probably only a day or two difference in colonzation times.
