So, I sent you a PM before seeing this thread.

I spent about an hour checking it out through a nice solar telescope.

Very cool.

It's just some nights, you really want to go out, get some hot bitch to dump Goose down your throat and snort coke off a stripper's tits.

I didn't hear about this until late last night..... i have a friend with a telescope w/ a solar filter, had I heard earlier I could have borred it from him or got him to take a few hours off work so we could check it ouit... bummer.

there will be plenty of pics, if not some "live" shots available on many different sites.

I think you can only see it if you live in a certain area.

So here in the panhandle of florida i think we're gonna miss it.

Yeah.  I checked it out through a couple of different scopes, but actually the nice 8" reflector w/ solar filter had the best view in my picture.

The sun spot viewable is bigger than Mercury,

Still very cool.

A few astro web sites indicated that where I am in the Hawaiian islands is a good viewing spot. I am sure that there are several observatories on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, tracking this event right now as we geek out on the Shroomery.

It definitely puts a few things into perspective.

Definitely!

And Mercury is at approx 55,000,000km from the sun. We are at approx 150,000,000km from the sun so if Mercury was almost touching(or next to) the sun, its diameter would be 60% of what it looks like now, compared to the sun.
