A couple Ganodermas I found

Hello guys. i found both of these with a few blocks of my home. i plan on cloning and growing these guys. along with making some nice tea.

first is a nice little clump of artists conch (ganoderma applanatum). Theyre growing on a fallen palm, i may have posted a while back about this patch but i dont recall for certain. Regardless ive picked one so i took some pics.


an old picture of the group. theyve grown much since then.


top shot.


the spore deposit is extremly thick. spores and other sediment accumulated on the top and made a hard clay like layer. i broke apart this layer and found many little bug larvae. there was nothing living in the actual mushroom.


and the underside.

does anyone know the best preparation method to make tea from g. applanatum? i was just going to follow a basic g. lucidum recipe.


ok next is another ganoderma i havent identified. Looks like either lucidum or tsugae to me. regardless, it is quite pretty with the branching.









would mea be good to get these guys cloned?

Nice finds mate. All thats to be had around here with any reliability is G. applanatum. Does anyone know if G. applanatum has any medicinal properties?

Yes, G applanatum has medicinal benefits. Think about it. Any mushroom that can survive for twenty or more years has to have very powerful antimicrobial properties.

The reishi looks to be G lucidum, but unfortunately is too mature for cloning. You want to clone when they still have a fleshy, white leading edge. The leading edge is where you find the growing mycelium that is suitable for cloning.

I think that Roger is a little pessimistic here..
the vital force of these polypores is very strong..
so it's worth trying ..

In my journal there is an older Reishi that I cloned..
It was already somewhat dried out when I got it, but it recovered easily..
It didn't fruit indoors then and now it is in the garden on some birch logs..
Hopefully next year it fruits ..

So does the G. applanatum have medicinal properties as potently as the reishi? I have found a couple of articles in which it is mentioned as a medicinal along with other Ganoderma's, and I even found a website selling dried G. applanatum...but can anyone point me in the direction of some studies on it's actual contents?

I have had good sucsess cloning an older ganoderma. There was no white leading edge so I just cut out some of the tough brown flesh and to my suprise it took off quite readily. I have yet to get it on sawdust but some of them petri dishes have formed primordia so I expect it to be a fruiter. You will need a sharp scalple.
