Eye of the Leopard (national geographic channel special)
    #6168801 -

has anyone seen this?! it's one of the best nature documentaries I've ever seen, so hop to, ye illegal downloaders! It's a 2 hr feature culled from 3 years or so of footage of a leopard growing up with its mother and then becoming a leopardess on her own.

It just was released to TV last week.

I was about to ruin a whole scene, but let's just say that, baked out of my mind last night, I got teary-eyed at a scene featuring a baby baboon.

baboons are mean scary fucking creatures. I was standing about four feet away once from a live baboon, talk about nervous. They are mean as shit and scary as hell.

that sucks.

Nerd TV rocks.

I once saw a National Geographic documentary on lions.  A new male came in and beat the old male in a fight.  This new male got to take over the pride.  The new male killed all of the cubs (because they were the offspring of the old male).  It was SO sad.  :frown:

I will also recommend "Relentless enemies", a documentary about one of the most interesting symbiotic relationships ever witnessed between lions and buffalo
Suffice to say, it has some of the most spectacular behaviours I've ever seen filmed and features awesome high budget filming.

did anyone see the one where they follow around all sorts of different animals during the drought?.. hyenas, lions, crocodiles, leopards... called 'Predators at War'

really good, too... has some cool footage of a lioness and leopard fighting in a tree... and a lot of other 'struggles.'

it's on tomorrow again.

Is that the one where the film crew watches a pool of rapidly diminishing water in Africa?  There were crocs and hippos all crammed in there and deer and monkeys were gingerly coming up to the shore to drink; only to get nabbed by the crocs.  At the end all that was left was mud.  All of the hippos left and lots of baby crocodiles died in the muck.

I'm not positive, but we watched a documentary called "predators at War" and that looks like it might be from it. It's a LITTLE bit cheesy, but if you can get past that, it's really good.

i watched this documentary last night. i was mesmerized.
i think the leopard's name was lakadeema or something like that.
it was great to watch the little leopard grow up and learn how to climb trees, hunt monkeys and squirrels...great stuff.
one part that really interested me was the relationship that the leopard had with the monkeys in the jungle. how she had watched her mother hunt them up and down the trees, and how she had learned that she had to get the high ground. it showed the leopard as a baby watching the monkeys up in the trees, and then fast-forwarded...
well, i suppose you have to see it to understand, but it's a great documentary.
i recommend it.
