You are completely misrepresenting what was stated on that page.

Quote:
Faced with such an overwhelming force only a small confederation of city-states, led by Athens and Sparta, determined to resist Xerxes. At most they possessed some thirty thousand men, and a few hundred ships.

There is a difference between a "war" and a "battle". The war effort drummed up 30,000 troops.

Quote:
By the spring of 480 Xerxes' army had reached Macedonia in the north of Greece. In response a contingent of 300 Spartans and several thousand allies were sent to occupy the narrow mountain pass of Thermopylae, not far from the Greek fleet, that was anchored off the nearby coast at Artemisium.

It was a suicide mission, designed to detain the Persians just long enough for the rest of the Greek allies to gather their forces. Led by King Leonidas, the Spartans heroically held the Persians at bay for nearly a week until outnumbered, betrayed and outflanked they were finally defeated.

That would be the battle.

there were still 7000 men at that battle, claiming that only 300 killed 20k troops
even with a tactical advantage like having the high ground is ridiculous especialy
since the persians had them flanked on 3 sides, thats over 60 men each would have
had to have killed, of course the numbers fluxuate so much it's difficult to
beleve it to be more than a legend, anywhere from 60k men to 2 million fought for
the persians

it's mostly legend, great for making heroes out of those that fought for sparta

only 1000 made the last stand, the rest were regrouping. the legend is based on the final defense

If you want to see a real battle in the modern era of an outnumbered groups of soldiers defeating a disproportionately larger group of enemies, check of the Battle of Rorke's Drift. 139 British Soldiers defeated somewhere from 4,000-5,000 Zulu warriors, many who had guns. Only 17 British Soldiers died, while they believe that almost half of the Zulu warriors may have died.

Is anyone tired of movies that have a lot of scatter-brained battle scenes? TROY was the last movie I sat through like that. Ever since then I haven't been interested.
