If you can find it The Blind Swordsman Zatoichi was badass. Pretty traditional, no wires or over the top special effects.

Kung Fu Hustle was also pretty amazing. Over the top special effects, and a comedy, but the quality of action still surprised me. definitely worth a rental.

If youre looking for something old Sword of Doom was one of the best 'old' martial arts movies ive seen.

outside of that, i really enjoyed hero and flying dagger.
hated ong-bak, no story, horrible acting, poorly coriographed, i finished the second half of the movie in fast forward looking for parts that were worth watching...didnt find any.
and of course its hard to go wrong with all old jackie chan, bruce lee, and jet lis stuff

Another vote for Fist of Legend. Great choreography and even a decent storyline.

Swordman II and Dragon Inn

You can buy those two and be happy. Always buy the subtitled originals though... they always screw up the audio and music on the dubs.

all the good movies are stuff you can't rent usually anyway unless you live in an area with a high asian population...

Hero.

And if you're at all into animation, rent Princess Mononoke.

That was Kickboxer, although they're both pretty much the same movie.

Yeah, no one's seen Zatoichi. It's a pretty dope movie. Lots of blood like Ninja Scroll. I thought it was really cool.

Blood Sport's also sweet!

I need to go rent Drunken Master again, Ong Bak (NEVER SEEN IT YET!!!) and so many other movies. I always get stoked at work about renting some cheesy ass kung fu movies but never get around to it. I caught that bruce lee flick on Spike tv as well. My girlfriend even sat down and watched it. She's starting to really like bruce lee movies!!!
