I want to start doing some agar work and I went to several different sites to compare prices. I soon realized I dont have a clue what to buy. I am seing like 6 or 7 different kinds. So what should I get I would prefer something that is contam resistant. Tell me if I'm missing anything, I need: scalple, alcohol lamp, petris (I want the reusable), jar of _____ agar, the tape for the edges (I forget the name), and I also need one of those cylendars to measure it all in dont I? I want to order all this tomorrow when I send off for some other stuff so I can get it all at once and save $ on shipping. Any advice would be great. As you can probably tell I am new to this.

you can start out your agar work (and maybe even continue) without reliance of an online source all of your materials can be found at the home brew shop and a grocery store making your own agar is really pretty hard to mess up, as long as you have a half decent scale you will be alright (even if you dont you can borrow one and pre-mix baggies that you can just pour into a liter of water) the most common mixes around here are MEA and PDYA (recipies are in grow/find or past threads) for an antibiotic mix i you may need to order off the internet. i have not found a need for it yet and dont see needing it in the future (unless i am using wild prints or something) I have had some good results using a little H202 as far as petri's you can use half pints, and for a scalpel i use razor blades that i put in the PC for a bit.

I'm about ready to get started with agar soon. Keep us posted, maybe I can follow in your footsteps. Interested in seeing what recipe you try out first, and how it turns out. Good luck.
