Westboro Baptist to protest Amish funerals

A Baptist church group plans to demonstrate at the funerals of five Amish children slain in a school shooting Monday in Nickel Mines, Pa.
Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan. travels the country picketing at military funerals and stated yesterday in a news release that the "girls [were] killed by a mad man in punishment for Gov. Ed Rendell's blasphemous sins."

The Pennsylvania governor signed a bill in July of this year that would make it a misdemeanor offense for protestors to demonstrate at a funeral and would restrict them to a 500-foot radius.


What a bunch of fucking pricks. What would Jesus do?.....not that. How can people be so cruel, so unfeeling as to use something like this to furthur their agenda?  :nonono:  :thumbdown:

That church is a fucking disgrace, they regually picket the funerals of gay people and their website is full of hatred and bile towards homosexuals, they are completly obsessed with the issue!

They also claim that 9/11 and the space shuttle disaster was a work of god punishing America for it's sins. Oh and everybody in the armed forces is a faggot! I'm very suprised that the state hasn't intervined and made their public activities illegal. I'm all for free speach but not when it encourages hatred.

Yeah man, that shit really pisses me off. The Amish do NOT need this shit right now. About the Amish....some of the victims families actually went to the shooters family, embraced them, and they said they had forgiven him. Now THAT is what Jesus would have done, THAT is true spirit, true faith. I already had a good amount of respect for the Amish, but it really sky-rocketed when I heard that. These shootings really need to stop....this one was 40min-hour or so away from me, I couldn't believe it when I heard.

I really wish some more mainstream churches would take these people on in a religious debate. I can't even imagine what kind of twisted Bible interpretations are leading to their current beliefs, but it really makes me sick.

The entire New Testament is FILLED with Jesus preaching infinite forgiveness again and again, and somehow these people manage to interpret that as hate. They need to be engaged before they spread their poison.

I swear... the members of that church are dead set on a mission to make the people of Sodom look like altar boys in comparison.

They don't even care about logic anymore. They might as well be protesting the funerals because they dislike the facial expressions on a certain brand of Rubber Ducks.

The amish are some of the strictest christian people in this country, and these idiots are so full of themselves that they think that the amish are sinners compared to themselves.

Don't get me wrong people should be free to speak about their detest for other people all they want. Where I believe the line should be drawn is where the person involved is encouraging others to commit violent acts against other people or groups of people or encouraging them to commit crime. That surely cannot be acceptable. I consider myself a liberal person but it is not right that terrorists can preach jihad and murder in our streets and hide under the free speach banner.

yes... it is right.

It may not be pleasant, but it's right. We can't pick and choose what things we like about the bill of rights and which we don't.

The government does allready have certain limits on free speech that make things nonprotected which would readily endanger public safety, but despite being horrible, it's entirely necessary that we not tighten the noose to outlaw this kind of hateful speech. If we start redesigning our rights just to exclude things we don't like, then we'd be proving that we don't deserve a democracy.

protesting the funeral does not prevent people from attending, it simply causes
more distress during an already difficult time, it's not an infringement
