Lights
    #613362 - 04/20/02 01:13 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

How much light should I give during the start of pinning? The reason I ask is I see that some say mushrooms only need spurts of light while others say to do it 24 etc. I see in primordia formation they need roughly 12-16hrs but is this straight light or just light everyonce and awhile and is a lot of light important during pinning?

I beleive the light is just to give them a direction to grow in.
I had a freind grow on a 12/12 light/dark cycle and everything came out great

You didn't mention if it was cakes or casings but here's a
little observation:
I white styrpfoam cooler had a plexiglass window in the lid
about the size of a peice of typing paper.
It was sitting several feet from a window that always has
the blinds closed but some daylight comes in. The light bounced
around of the white in the cooler that the mushrooms seemed
to think the light was coming from everywhere, and all grew
straight out. It was really unmanageable. So a peice of cardboard
was placed over the window with a hole in it about the size
of a baseball. An they all began to grow up.
Multicolored bins don't seem to have this problem. But all of
this is about cakes.
The point is, a spot near a window, can do away with the
need  of a light and a timer, with cakes or casings.
But that's just my opinion. And I'm not sure I'm qualified to
be giving those right now. What were we talking about?
