some help with identifying Mr. Gym Opilus ...picture update
    #6130029 -

gymnopulis spectibilis in question? an id apreciated regardless...

medium to large, orange yellow cap and stalk, gills lighter, found in large clumps on rotting stump(berch)

cap; broadly convex, becoming flat, some a bit wavy, some with low rounded hump. surface, smooth, bit sticky (was rainy) dark orange, flushed with strong brown. flesh, thick, tapering gradually to thin margin, fragile, very moist, pale yellow, slight green tint. oder was light mealy bitter, taste bitter.

gills; crowded, andante, narrow, yellow, becoming brown.

stalk, cylindrical, club shaped, solid firm. yellow above ring, orange yellow flushed with brown below, streaked, ring thin.

spore print, red brown- orange brown, darker where heavy amount, heavy amount op spores released.

some has long curvy stems.

my pics will take two days, i found an nice amount, there drying, the clumps ranged from pins to large rotten ones, the rotten ones were solid brown, the smaller being yellow, there were green areas where mushrooms folded on top of each other, light tint. some had dropped spores on each other a dark brown. seem to be hard to dry, i put a small heater in the room.

is what iam looking for is any inconsistency's for a gym id, i dont want to bother with drying if so..

i think i got gyms here, just the surface, not so fibrous, has fibrous features but light.

anyone have a good spore print shade for gyms?

any help much appreciated

Well they sound like gyms to me, excellent description btw. The old and young ones were different colours which is a good sign also.

Spore print taken from sporeworks...
As you can see rust is a pretty good description I rekon.

I'm hanging out for pictures but things sound pretty gymmy to me!

to add to that after refreshing mind of online pics,,,,

-the stems seem too thin?? i have seen very few pics of gyms in early stage. the mushroom in question, was rotting before getting very large, weather has been really moist dark cloudy, some were infected with white mold.

on the large caps, 4'' had stems the size if a sharpie marker, the 2'' caps had stems just thicker than a pencil. dose this rule them out?, still looking gymie to me, i have identified 9 gym look alikes now, with thanks to to all of you's, just patiently waiting, and desperately looking.......

most likely not, Hypholoma fasciculare, but more than thank you, that was not on my list of look alikes, could possibly have saved me time in the future. the ones in question all around different in color.

cool, another advancement towards a positive id, i went and checked my mushies, my mushroom lab is a camper out back in the woods,,,

the spore print is very similar in color to the one from spore works, when i first looked it was wet very wet,,,now it dried its that shade pictured above...

cool very cool, but it sux i have two days before i get my camera cord, and even then it will be some time, and if so.... i got to go through my possess of testing, iam not going to eat anything based from just this board, for me, will try tiny amounts and step them up every two days, but only after a positive id, its going to be like a two week possess here, unless i get a no, witch i hope to get sooner than the latter......

I'd wait for ShroomeyDan/Eris or someone to confirm your ID, they look a little odd IMO, :frown: .

The caps seem quite thin, the colour looks a little weird, they seem to be quite shiny. however they do have many GYM features, so I dont know what to tell you, perhaps they are another gym species or something, but I hope that they are what you're searching for.!

yeah they do look a bit off, its the stem cap ratio that concerns me,,,the coloring was effected by the mushrooms sporing, the top ones on clumps were more yellow, in pic one, bark had prevented the spores from hitting the cap, its greenish also, but ???
in pic 6, the bottom left conner there are the old rotting ones, ones near top are less colored from spores...

of the mushrooms in question, circling around the stump, in pic 6 the rotten were on the far left, the molded ones were the shiny ones like in pic 1,3,4 ,,,on the opposite side of tree, furthest from the rotten ones, were the non shiny ones, non molded, like in pic 7 and 8. i hope this may help, I am thinking the shinny is the death kickin in, but what do i know? well alot about look alikes so far......

yeah looks like a tuff one, iam patiently waiting.

these have a distinct oder, i seen others slightly different, that smelled similar, but were to convex to be gymnopilus spectibilis.

How big are the biggest ones? They look very small, ie 4 inches tall max while laughing gyms always seem to be much larger...

I'm hanging out for a result here!
