Can somebody help me identify any of these shrooms. They were found in cow pastures on the east coast of Australia. When broken they all turned blue within about 20-30 seconds. I believe the larger is known as a gold top around here.

The large is a cubensis. The small on the left is a Coprophila. The one on the right the smaller could have been any of three pans. The Coprophila by reports I have heard is inactive and may cause gastric problems. the current gossip is that if you grow coprophila indoors on grain or seed it becomes active. The one on the top or left, the small one, the way the stem dried and turned black after it stained a violent blue, like a Pan Cyan or possible Tropicalis would do. These are educated guesses. I would print the big one, if it was purple brown I would eat it. The others would require fresh spore prints and fresh and dried samples of fruit to be sure. Food tasters didn't live long in the old days of kings and queens the same is true of mushroom testers/tasters. Mr.G

The big one is a cubensis, the others are all panaeolus, possibly cyanescens or tropicallis. I wouldn't bet on coprophila, cap is darker on coprophilas, just like the cubensis cap color, besides, coprophilas are not active and i don't believe they will become so if cultivated indoors. Peace, MAIA

ausfrost, The largest of the mushrooms pictured is Psilocybe cubensis. -(psychoactive) The three smaller on the right, appear to be Copelandia cyanescens (psychoactive). Also known as Panaeolus cyanescens. -Always, check each and every mushroom you collect for bluing. There are several other non-active Panaeolus mushrooms that closely resemble the Copelandia, except they are not psychoactive and they do not stain blue. The last mushroom (to the left of the Cube) looks to be one of the non-active Panaeolus' (described above), of which also grows directly from manure. -Panaeolus campanulatus. --Pan camp's have reddish/brown colored stems, and do not stain blue. I may be wrong about the Panaeolus pictured left of the Cube. -If it blued, then it is definately a shroom. Copelandia (Panaeolus) cyanescens.

Thanks people for the info. Now another question. How strong are these shrooms? A friend and I had 1.5 of the cubs fresh and were mildly trippin. What would you recommend for a strong dose? (And yes I have had them before just never picked myself)

Where do you get such useless information GGreatone234.. Are you the gossiper of Hong Kong. P. coprophila is not and never has been psychoactive in vitro or in situ. mjshroomer. have a hot sweaty summer in Hong Kong. You willbe frying by the middle of may. mj

MJ, if you'd take the time to read the entire post you'd see that GGreatOne was quoting a previous poster and then below GreatOne laughs/questions his comment. It was Mr. G who said "the current gossip is that coprophila becomes active invitro" LK,
