Because it is not an active species. I'm not sure why it is said to be hallucinogenic in so many reputable books. I know the story behind Pan. foenisecii, and how it was mis-labeled as hallucinogenic, but I'm not sure about coprophila? Maybe MJ can shed some light as to why this is.

no!!! psilocybe cophropila is not psychoactive, nor paneolina foenisecii, nor panaeolus sphinctrinus.
all these mushrooms have been wrongly catalogued.

i think paul stamets listed alot of non psychoactive mushrooms in his book as psilocybes because of other similiar charateristics besides gettin high off it.i dont know why.seems stupid to me.

mj will know more,so please elaborate a bit mj.

when i saw a coprophila for the first time i thot i had scored!there were thousands of them and semiglobattas growing outa buffalo shit on my friends property.hehe but they are non active.everyday pickin mushrooms is a fun day,so it wasnt a real let down when i identified them as coprophilas.

Hi, There are over two and fifty or so species of Psilocybe,

Only about 25 or a few more of those actually grow on manure.

One-hundred and seventy-eight have been identified as Psilocybian.

In the late 1970's a lot of mycologists listed this species a s possibly hallucinogenic because of its relationship to other species in the genus.

Psylosymon listed three of those mushrooms which are not psychoactive but have been reported as being so.

I would also like to add another species to this list. you can find a puicture in my field guide at my web-site.

Panaeolus antillarum.

This species macroscopiclay resembles Copelandias, except it becomes rather larg with black gills with very white edges and becoames from an off white color to a silvery color in age.

It was accidently reports as the infamous "Hysteria Fungus" in the late 1940s from Australia where many people accidently ate Copelandia mushrooms and mycologists assumed it was the Panaeolus antillarum.

Have a shroomy day,

Mj

Panaeolus antillarum, hmmmm. Strange, a really experienced shroomer once pointed those out to me. Called them "Snow Caps" or something. Said that even though they do not bruise blue they still trip people out. I immediately thought that since this person was confuseing them with copelandias. I picked one up(out of a cluster of about 100), looked at it for a few seconds, threw it on the ground and said "I wouldnt eat that shit.", walked away and this shroomer still insisted upon them tripping people out.

Oh and mj, are there any known copelandia species with Silver stems that stain blue? Silver stems twice as thick as the copelandias i normally find. And with caps that are much Beefier and durable.

I would appreciate any input from you on that.

ha ha ha! mj that was funny, psychoshroomer what are you retarded? i thought after mj explained, and he did a good job explaining that you would understand that this type of psilocybe mushroom contains such a low amount of psilo that it is virtually inactive but aparently you do not have the brains to comprehend more than a single word at a time the answer is NO!

lizard king, psylosymon, and then airdog said NO it is not hallucinogenic, and you still idn;t get it then mj shroomer said it was not psychoactive and you STILL did not understand, go back to preschool!
