Using skins of hazelnuts as substrate?
    #6046056 -

Today i've found a tree of hazelnuts. Is possible to use JUST the skin as substrate? of course soaking it 24/48 in water?

if yes it could be a good idea to recycle the wastes of hazelnuts industies..

I had some success growing oyster mycelium on various nut shells, hazelnuts included after boiling them. I can't recall what ended up happening, though, I left for a couple months at some point after that. I imagine it'd be even better if it were actually sterilized first.

The hulls do take on mold and fungus quickly after being leached. I have noticed this naturally in gathering walnuts for wormer.

I think my mixture was mainly peanuts, but it included a lot of mixed nuts as well. It never molded, although it was at a lower temperature than one would normally incubate at. This was over the winter in my room. I plan on growing a lot of hazelnuts in the future, so this may be something I should try experimenting on. I never thought of it!

Im my experience generally molds on skins of nuts arrives when they're fresh and not prevently dried at the sun and at open air for a lot of time..
