Any GOOD raw edibles besides beefsteak?
    #6007238 -

I like ALL of my veggies raw, and dont like the taste of the common white buttons sold in the market. Is there any hope? Do the chickens really taste like chicken?

actually, chikens taste like raw fish, with the consistency to match. thats why you gotta cook 'em.

im not sure of any that taste perfectly raw.

ill be interested in the results of this post, though.

Portabellas can be good raw as can shiitake, both do better marinated in my opinion (vinegar, oil, salt, and pepper.) Thin slice shiitake and discard the stem, and leave to marinate in this mixture for a couple of hours.

Chicken of the Woods is said to cause gastric upset in some people, and I'm guessing the chances are even higher, eating it raw.

shitake's smell horide. Porcini's are delicious, morel's are delicious. Chicken Polypores make a damn good soup. Oysters are real good.

Same thing that I was thinking. Actually there are a lot of mushrooms that can be mildly toxic or cause stomach upset if not cooked properly. Even if not listed as being one of those kinds of species, I still prefer just about everything cooked.

I have always thought of eating raw mushrooms as being risky. Not all sources will tell you if you can eat things raw or not, so it kind of seems like a gamble to me in most cases.

Raw Chicken of the Woods consistently leads to illness, as goes for morels. (Anyone remember the resturant that got in trouble for serving raw morels? Everyone got sick!)
