Found some good edibles this weekend

The chicken of the woods is growin on an oak at about 3 feet up the tree. It was very clean. Pieces of the Chicken were cooked in a Pie Iron on a campfire with butter and beer and a couple of batches with butter and wine. Both turned out very nice. One batch was somewhat burned, like a thin black layer on one surface and it still tasted good. The Cauliflower also was cooked in a Pie Iron.
The Agaricus abruptabulbous was found in the woods, it is a very close relative of Agraricus blazei. It has an almond smell when raw and when cooked it has a strong almondy flavor. Care should be taken when collecting Agaricus species because until they gills of Agaricus turn brown they resemble some deadly Amanitas. This mushroom especially as it, except for the universal veil, looks a lot like Amanita virosa
The Pholiota is pretty. It is not an edible.
I also found some chanterelles and Lacterius volemus.

Nice photos!
I also tried cooking up some tender chicken of the woods, it turned out a little bitter. I used generally the same ingredients as you- wine, butter, salt, pepper, broth. I considered blanching or briefly boiling the next batch before sauteing, which might leach some of the bitterness... any thoughts??
I am a chef, so i do know how to properly saute, thus I don't attribute my methods so much to the peculiar flavour.

Thanks,
bitterness have never had a bitter one. Maybe what it was growing on? I usually don't add any liquid to Chicken of the Woods when I'm cooking them. Just saute in oil and then add them to soup, sauce or other dishes. Or add to pan with meats as they cook.
Try them again the color that they add to stuff they are in is great, they don't lose any of the orangeness.
