Feeding Spores To Horses...

Hi . . Does anybody know if i feed spores to the horses it will grow shrooms from its shit? The reason I choose horses is because I have some right behind my house. Would it be better to just squirt the spores over a big pile of shit? pls I don't know about this stuff

If you've got spores to waste I say go for it. Keep us posted on the results. I have read that some mushroom spores can survive animal digestion, try it and see. Why not dump a pile of shit in you backyard and try both methods.

...yes, some mushrooms spores can survive animal digestion, and definatley Cubensis - seeings as thought that's specificly the only way they reproduce in the wid.

Don't bother squirting a pile of shit - it could work (but I doubt it). I've had success doing something similar: once I mixed spores and caps in with a big pile of cow crap, put it in my back yard, watered it every day and got good mycelium growth. In the end it got contaminated and dried out (my bad)and died without producing any fruits. I have provided pictures just for those that don't beleive me (and I don't blame you!) :smile:


The best way to start a wild colony is to make a spore print on an apple that's been sliced in half, then feed it to the animal. A cow is preferable as cubensis don't seem to grow much on horse shit - although they definatley do sometimes, it's not their shit of choice. :wink: Squirt spores on the grass that they're eating or squirt it in their mouth. The spores have to go through their digestive system (I.e. their natural incubators) and are then placed on the ground in natural casing chambers (I.e. the shit). That's why you shouldn't bother just squirting a shit. :smile: hehe.

Squirt it in their water troff or something.

I'd suggest getting the spores into the horses feed rather
than innoculating the shit directly with spores.  If you don't
have access to where their feeder is, cut a plug out of an
apple, add spores to the apple, replace the plug, and toss it
into the feild. The horse will find  it. Or give it directly to the
horse. Each time it rains in the summer, they will spring up.  If
you don't find em, the horse will, and spread em more.

It would probably be fun to gather some dried up horse
nugets and put them in a little pile, or hole, in the shade,
and covered with plastic, and spawn with a crumbled
cake or honey water.

I understand that feeding spores to COWS does work. It has been said that they have a very unique digested system with two stomachs. I dont think that horses have such a digested system and thus there stomach acid *might* kill the spores. Then again why do the 'shrooms grow in horse shit in the first place? hmm....Anyway, we do know that cows pass the spores thru without killing them however.

I'm in a midle of an experiment with my horse. 5 weeks treatment with Pan Subb spores and 2 weeks with cubensis spores, i'm waiting for a hotter weather, it has rained for 3 days and after this weekend it will arrive a more suitable weather, i'll report in hunt forum if anything comes up.
BTW, my process is simples, less than 1x1 cm piece of spores from a sporeprint into a piece of bread, feed it to horse two times a day and watch its shit piles every now and then, the search takes about 30 minutes , it's one of the most relaxing things i do, i also change the horse from site to site every two days... hugs and care helps the beast being happy.
Ruminants have 4 stomachs if you didn't know.
