Humidity Question
    #592677 - 03/29/02 09:13 AM (21 years, 10 months ago)

Im having a little trouble with my humidity in my terranium(1 foot deep, 1 foot wide, 1.8 feet long) - its only a steady 90%! Does it need to be any higher, like 100%? And how the hell could I do this? - I currently have 1.5 inches of moist perlite inside, I plan on misting and fanning daily but what could I do to raise the humidity - maybe add more water to the perlite I was thinking I dunno any suggestions??

PS I have one cake in there so I assumed those need high humidity will 90 do the job though?? 95% = cutoff to form primodora? Anyways im just lookign for suggestions as to what to do to higher the humidity

The purpose for misting is to raise the humidity. Set the nozzle
as fine as you can get it. Don't spray the cake. Spray the sides
or install a drip shield. How do you know it's 90? ie what are
you using for a hygrometer / humidity gauge? Some are
misleading. Have you calibrated it?
2" of wet perlite, 1" of water.
PS, you want 95%+
Hope that helps. :peace:

To induce pinning the humidity needs to be 95% or higher. As said in the other post try and mist it. Ohhh and do you have a hygrometer, if u dont id invest inone. Radioshack has a plethra of them for aorund 20 bucks, and make sure it s calibrated.
good luck

there is a salt tek to calibrate it, it goes something like put it in a bag of salt and it should read 75%, i've never done this so you should search the archives, but another good idea to stop having to fan would be to get a 15$ fish tank bubbler put it in a jar of water/h2o2 mix and a polyfil whole in the opposite bottom corner, that eliminates fanning and it should get your humidity up a few points, whatever you do post it back here to help out others

Ok well what I ended up doing was calibrating my therm/hygro just to make sure everyhting was ok, and it turned out to be fine.
I added more water/h2o2 to the perlite and misted but still my humidity is like 92% at the highest......

Im not sure why its not getting pasted 92% I have 2 inches of moist perlite and i mist 2x a day and fan 3x! what is wrong!

you may need to buy a humidifier. whats your temp at?
humidity is proportional to the temp.
