I could not freakin' resist. Before I had to head out to work today, a mere HOUR before, I took a hike up behind my house in the nearby woodlot where my eyes found quite a few mushrooms in a very short period! I'm still working on spore prints, etc, so I'll post them later to aid identification. But for now, I'll post the pictures, and some of my thoughts!
Here are my guesses on ID for now, let me know what you think. Spore prints, etc coming soon. All mushrooms were photographed in a strip of deciduous woods behind my house, in central Pennsylvania.
Mushroom 1 - False Chanterelle (Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca)
The only information I attempted to gather on this mushroom was a visual, primarily because it wreaked! Not stinky squid wreak (which ALSO grew in my back yard years ago!)...but like...decaying animal wreak. Yeah, um, I dropped it immediately after picking it up!

Mushroom 2 - Chanterelle Waxy Cap (Hygrophorus cantharellus)
Absolutely stunning mushrooms color-wise. If it wasn't for their flamboyant coloration, I would have most certainly crushed them with my foot on the way back down to the house! That would've been a tragedy, because this is my first encounter of these beauts.

Mushroom 3 - I have no idea, my online visual references point to "Hygrophorus sp." on this next one, but I'm still unaware of what the "sp" stands for in all these mushroom names! I'm still learning, and have NO field guides yet! The mushroom padewan has MUCH to learn!
Part of me wonders if waxy cap chants are always tall with a small rounded cap, or could they also grow low to the ground, with a broad cap like this "Hygrophorus sp.".

Mushroom 4 - Fairy Ring?
I have no freakin clue, but a spore print and such will be no problem, as this mushroom was all over one of the logs in the woods behind my house.

Mushroom 5 - White Worm Coral (Clavaria vermicularis)
Not far from the waxy caps.

Mushroom 6 - Bay Bolete?(Boletus badius)
I'm working on a spore print for this one. The pores bruise dark green, almost black, with no blue bruising on the meat of the yellow meat of the mushroom. I have no idea on the range of the Bay Bolete.

Mushroom 7 - Unknown
I have no idea! Very small...I haven't been able to ge a spore print because the cap fell apart when I came back to the house.

Mushroom 8 - Yellow Unicorn Entoloma (Nolanea murraii)
This was actually the first mushroom I found today. Witches cap? No idea really. I noticed the photograph of Yellow Unicorn Entoloma showed it as being rather rough...whereas this specimen was very smooth.

In any case...I'm heading off to bed now, as I hope to get out tomorrow. We just got some rain, so findings should be good. Three days off work in a row? Can't beat it!
No ID's necessary being that I'm still working on spore prints, etc, but I was so pumped to show everyone todays findings!
