The 30th Anniversary Magic Shroom Hunting Guide Special
    #5812661 - 07/02/06 02:41 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Well this month marks the 30th anniversary of the longest selling in print book on the identification of Magic Mushrooms.

A little known fact regarding the publication of my book.

This guide was published and paid for by the U.S. Government of the United States of America.

For those interested in hearing how the Government came to pay for my book and why I wrote it can read of this adventure in Shroom Talk magazine Issue number 3, this fall.

I would like to point out that my small privately published field guide has outsold Paul Stamet’s first book, Psilocybe Mushrooms and their Allies by 45,000 books. This can be confirmed by Homestead Book Co, who distributed all of the underground drug books in the PNW for over thirty years. My book even outsold Homestead Book Company's own Magikal Mushroom Handbook and many other guides including Gary Menser’s, Bob Harris’ and Richard Hans Norlan’s as well as that of Richard and Karen Haard's guide.

Since July of 1976, my book has now sold more than 75,000 copies.

The first edition of this book sold for $2.50 per copy and there were 2,000 copies printed. It was only one cover and 24 pages. and I identified 31 possible species, with 5 illustrations and 16 black and white photos.

The 2nd edition printing was 10,000 copies and the price went to $3.50 per copy. It was black and white and had two mushrooms mis-identified, one by Ghouled and one by Dr. Daniel Stuntz. And also included a few non-active species listed as possible and identified by other mycologists for me.

The third printing was the largest of my book at 43,000 copies at $3.50 per book and total sales within less than a year of publication was 55,000 copies, very affordable and cheap for those interested in learning about these special mushrooms. I tried to give this book away at a very cheap price compared to that of other such selling books. More than one dozen publications appeared in print in the 1970s on the identification of magic shrooms.

In 1997, I revised the book somewhat to 42 pages, added new text, 12 colored photos of common species and 36 black and white photos and the price rose between $12.00 per copy and in 2002 the cost of printing increased and the book price rose to $15.00 per copy.

See images below:

In the last 9 years I have sold close to 20,000 more copies, thus making it the longest selling field guide in the world and a publishing masterpiece as far as sales went for a privately printed booklet sold at such a low price. Of those original 1967 press run of 55,000 books in 3 editions, they sold out in less than one year. I made close to over $53,000 at a dollars off those first books. That is something I am very proud of.

Now for the Anniversary I am selling copies of this guide to any and all for just the low price of $10.00 per book and that includes shipping and handling. This special will last the month of July only.
