hey, i'm new to shroomery and i'm hooked on the complexity of mushrooms. i've found 3 random mushrooms in the woods in hope to find something active and edible.
species #1 -

habitat - in open dirt of deciduous woodlands near wetlands of central new jersey. cap - 1.5 to 1.75 inches in diameter. tan with lust (you could say gold-ish) in the center with gradient to toneful brown towards the edge. the cap is shaped bowl-like with somewhat of a nipple in the center. gills - brown to a darker brown. stem -approximately 3 inches long. milky white with slight tint of yellow. when bent, it snapped instantly. i supposed bruising is a sort of raw sienna (orangish-brown) color. hollow. spore print - reddish brown.
umm..my guess on this would be some sort of chanterelle. but then again, i started learning the other night.
species #2 -

habitat - in deciduous woodlands few feet from old decaying stumps. central new jersey. cap - approximately 2.5 inches in diameter. white. the whole thing is

Welcome to the Shroomery.
The first one looks like an Agaricus. The reddish bruising would indicate that it is one of the edible species. If you decide to try eating it, eat only a very small portion the first time after thorough cooking. Agaricus cause more unusual reactions than most mushrooms. If you don't feel ill overnight them you're OK to eat more of them than something the size of a fingernail.
The second one is an Amanita. Identification of it to species requires a bit more info, such as if the spores turn blue-black in Iodine. Since it is an Amanita you should treat it as if it were deadly poison until it can be positively identified otherwise.
Happy mushrooming!

about the suspected Agaricus, i'd love to try it. i saw a tea recipe and am wondering if it could apply to the species #1 found. if not, how would you suggest cooking it? or cleaning it, for that matter.

Your suggestion of tea makes me suspect you think this mushroom is psychoactive? It is not.
Agaricus is a genus that includes common cooking mushrooms, but they are usually only worth eating when they are young. Your mushroom is a little too mature to be a candidate for the table.
