anybody have any experience hacking a moto razr or any other cellphone?? i guess u can fuck with the software and upload ur own ringtones/ wallpapers for free. i got sick of my phone so i just bought that new media razr verizon came out with. i see there are some hacks but id be nervous to fuck up my phone. this media phone actually came with usb cord in the box. the other good reason to hack would be backing up my phonebook on my pc. i dont know what i would do if i lost my #s

There's a program called BitPim. I know it works with allot of LG phones, not sure about a new moto.
Also there are some excellent cell phone forums on the topic. I'll be damned if i can locate that link at the moment though.

Like KoTT said, Verizon has crippled the new RAZRs. All image and data transfer has been disabled. Via USB and bluetooth.
It's a ploy to make their customers purchase ringtones instead of make their own. Assholes.
KoTT: I hacked a Motorola V400 a while back. It wasn't that that hard. I haven't needed to hack my RAZR yet, but I'd imagine it's not that bad. You'll need the drivers(google) and a USB cord.
This should explain the rest: http://www.planetmotox.net/motox101/howto_flash_flex.htm
Try just doing the flex upgrade, not the flash. A failed flash upgrade will kill your phone. Also, be sure to get a flex that works with... oh wait. Fucking Verizon, they don't use sim cards do they? That messes everything up.
I have a feeling that if you flex upgrade the phone you're going to have take it back into Verizon and have them reauthorize it for the network. Then they'll know you hacked it. Then they will probably tell you some bullshit and charge you money.
I'd say google it. Sorry, I wasn't really any help.

ya verizon pisses me off so much. i bought a samsung sch-a950 about a month ago with a desire for self created ringtones, basically i wanted to take a clip from a comedy mp3 and put it on, and i had to go through all kinds of bullshit to get it to work. only pseudo working though as i had to convert it to some shit mono .qcf file that kind sounds like shit. the phone is fully capable of doing all kinds of cool stuff but it is crippled greatly. oh ya i wouldnt worry about them giving you trouble about hacking the phone, i asked one of the tech guys and they said they dont usually bother checking whether you hacked it or whatever for small stuff. although i think if you were somehow stealing service or something they would prob do something.

Yea gumby, I've messed around a lot with moto cells and I'm pretty sure he is fucked since he uses Verizon. I've never had verizon so I'm not 100% sure but i always hear that from everyone.
One thing you might be able to do is find number codes for your phone and turn on data transfer with one, probably not though. There are a lot of moto forums where you should be able to find all your answers.

But get off verizon dummy.
I have a SLVR on cingular right now and everything is custom, its great.

ATT/Cingular and T-mobile are the ones that use SIM cards.
Verizon, or least the phone I have from them has no card.

Well cingular has pretty damn good coverage and I only use my phone for calls so its good for me. I guess vcast comes with the price little customization.
How is verizon with dropped calls?

You said it. Great links too.
I'm on Rogers (Canada) and have done a lot of dicking around. Always make sure to back your shit up in case you have to send it back to the manufacturer.
I dropped my Motorola Rokr E1 within 2 days of purchase (first time I've dropped a cell) and sent it back without paying an Out of Warranty fee......... but the shit had a bunch of nakey pictures and videos on it lol.... shiiiiiiit, thought it was saved to the SD card and not the phone.

Ewww. I've read horrible reviews about the ROKR. Did you get another one or get a different phone?
