pH buffers; calcium what?
    #585146 - 03/21/02 12:07 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

ok my chemistry is a lil off but i think i remember some ppl using calcium bicarbonate (CaCO2 maybe??) to use in 50/50+ to act as a basic source.
my question is can i use calcium carbonate (CaCO im thinking)? ifound a product that claims: 200 grams of Pure NF grade Precipatated Calcium Carbonate Powder for about 6 bucks. im probably going to get it; i need something and this is the first that ive found that comes close to what other people are using; and how much of it i should be adding to my casing?
all feedback appreciated.
peace.

i've never heard of using calcium bocarbonate. I always use calcium carbonate. around 2.4 cups per 15 cups of peat moss. also add 15 cups vermiculite if going for 50/50 of course. I've never had contaminated casings when using calcium carbonate in this ratio.

2.4 cups Ca to 15 cups peat is about 16% calcium carbonate; is this right? if so i may need a bigger bottle than 200g; can ANYONE recommend a supplier of this stuff as this 200g bottle i found on ebay and its all ive found so far. im assuming that; since using no calcium works as well; i could lessen the ratio; obviously with proportional results.
anyone know where to get 2.4 cups of it anyway?
