They're heeeeere Man, I've been sick as hell for the past few days and am now finally feeling better. Took a stroll back to the morel patch and after almost 30 minutes and ready to give up I found the first gray morel, and then another, and another, and more and more and more It was awesome! only a few were even close to being ready to pick, but I did pick a few just cuz I couldn't wait It looks like we're in for a good season this year here in the southeast, I haven't seen this many morels in my patch before, there had to be atleast 50 or so morels that will be ready for picking by this weekend or so after it rains.
Anyways, here are the pics.....

Woah dude, thats awesome. What kind of habitat should I look in for these guys? I know you said burned over areas, but I also see some moss in those pictures. I'm gonna go check some of my favorite spots this weekend, see what I can find.
Do you have any prediction as to when the Pan. subbs or weilii's will start popping up?
The only mushrooms I've found so far are those same ones i found in my pan sub patch... Agaricus subagreosoa... or something along those lines. I found a patch of about 15 of them in the yard the other day.
Peace out,

Well, the burned areas are more like the niche that morels exploit, kinda like woodchip beds and Ps. cyanescens, its very rare to find a Ps. cyanescen in its natural habitat but quite common to see it in wood chips. The big morel hauls come from lands burned the year before, the morels will just explode in mass numbers. Most people aren't lucky enough to find land that was burned the previous year and supports morel growth. All the morels I find are close to creeks in low lying areas, typically somewhat sandy soil and generally covered in leaf litter not pine straw. And yes, they do have a tendency to prefer moss it seems. They prefer different habitats from region to region, but here in GA this is what I've noticed as far as what habitat they prefer.
About the subbs and weilii, I'd expect the subbs in another 2-4 weeks and the weilii around the second-third week of june, though I have heard of them showing up in late may.

If the temps warm up, LK, keep an eye on your patch because during certain temperature ranges, they grow as fast as cubes!

Man, thats a tough one, they are a one of a kind, IMO. They have their own distinct taste, you'll just have to pick some and eat em You'll see why they are so sought after

Arg... I went hunting for morels and Pans all day last saturday. The only fungus we found were some Agaricus. No luck. We seached in a hardwood forest and in a Pecan Tree field(orchard?). You think that the Pecan place sounds promising?
It was weird how we found the place, we were driving around, looking for cow pastures... and we see this HUGE ass forest of bamboo(in Georgia). So we walked around in the little forest, and there was a field with about 20 very old pecan trees... It was very random.
Anywho.. Gotta go do homework. Let me know what you think about that field LK... maybe I can take ya up there sometime.
Peace out,
