any WInAMp people???
    #5828808 - 07/06/06 06:35 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

i like to put thousands of songs in my winamp playlist. my problem is it takes forever for the program to read the id3 tags. in fact it only reads the tags for the part of the list you are looking at. it takes forever for me to scroll down the entire list so all the tags fill in. is there a plugin that forces winamp to do this on its own????

This is the very reason I switched to itunes, even after using winamp since 1995. itunes handles the library much better.

Yeah, I use winamp as well... Is it that important for it to load all of the tags right away?

You could always enlarge the playlist window and scroll up and down a couple of times... I don't know that there's a way for it to do by default...

I have winamp set to read the file names and not the id3 tags. No load time at all.

go into your winamp options, and change the setting "Read Titles on" to load (not display like you have it now)

Once you do that, load all your mp3's into the playlist, then save it as all.m3u

you'll never wait for it to load again.  iTunes just does it once and maintains the db, but lacks the incredible plugin support that you get with winamp.

also, KOTT: if you have any problem with it, feel free to PM me.  Anything I can do to keep you using winamp instead of iTunes....

I personally use 2.95 and hate the 5.xx series though... it lost it's heart when Justin left the programming lead after AOL bought them up

Yes, I think there is a way to allow winamp to scan through the entire file list and load id3 tags without having to do so manually by scrolling up and down. It took me awhile to figure it out, but heres what I did: Go to the media library prefrences, then go to "watch folders" then click into the metadata reading options at the bottem there. You should get a short list, tick the top options which says "Read data on import if available" then tick "ALL" and also smart scaning.

That worked for me, then I just made a new library playlist and imported the folders I wanted.

Im just going to test if these instructions are correct. Ok...There is actually more to it...In prefrences, go to "Titles" section and tick "Read metadata when files are loaded into playlist." this Im sure will allow the loading process to continue past the bottem of viewable space...

Tell me if that works.
