Anyone ever heard of them? I just got into them during a mushroom trip, oddly enough, when my friend brought over one of their records. I like them a lot, very trippy... was just wondering if anyone has heard of them or if they have any interesting/obscure music of theirs to share?

Hm, I was supposed to check them out a while ago. I think I'll do that now.
Lately I've just been listening to a whole lot of Unwound. I think they're awesome. Their earlier stuff is more punk/noise rock, and it's really good; although, I think more people would like their last album (ever, they broke up in 2002) "Leaves Turn Inside You". They are a lot of different styles of music, so if you have a tendency to only like a specific kind of music, chances are you probably wouldn't like them. Their style is really open-minded, and they do a great job of just making everything sound good. I've been listening to them for years now, and I still haven't gotten tired of any of their music. However, I've only met one person who liked them nearly as much as I do (although, they are pretty obscure).
I also really like Apples in stereo, The Flaming Lips, All Night Radio, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Casino vs Japan, The Cancer Conspiracy, Comets on Fire, Death From Above 1979, JR Ewing, Hot Snakes, The Icarus Line, My Morning Jacket, Pelican, Polaris, Sun O))), and....I'll stop now.
It's a really wide span of styles, but they're all pretty interesting/obscure (and Sun O))) is pretty scary)
I also would like to hear from others about any interesting/obscure music

yeah Dead Meadow are cool, anyone into kinda stoner/jam/psychedelic rock should check em although personally i wouldnt refer to their music as obscure. Shivering King and Others is probably my favorite album.
i'm into a lot of different styles too (Sunn O))) are great, love the drone), would love to offer some recommendations if there's anything your particularly after
having said that there's one band i think should get a lot more recognition around these forums:
Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O
One of my favorite bands; definately get a couple of albums if you dig psychedelic rock. Kawabata Makato is the main brain, he's had his hand in on many avant garde/ambient/noise works in japan since the 70's but AMT is definately the best place to start.

Anybody else with any suggestions?

no worries pal. some of my fave AMT albums would be Magical Power from Mars, Mantra of Love (best tripping album ever), Pataphysical freakout MU!, and La Novia. good starting points anyway, there's quite a collection of recordings out there!
and while we're talking psychedelic rock, the new Mars Volta album Amputechture is due out next month. if anyone wants a leaked teaser they should check out the first track from the album, Vicarious Atonement...oh the anticipation is too much

Thanks aj, you're ok in my book.
I used to think Mars Volta was awesome back when their Tremulant EP came out, and their first full length blew my fucking mind! I spent my entire summer listening to it though, so it got old after a while...then all these douchebags at my school started getting into them, gah.
I still like em a whole lot though, and look forward to their upcoming album.
Thanks again, ajna!
Anybody else? Come on!
