Dead Can Dance -OMG
    #3727829 - 02/03/05 10:34 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

No, not the "Grateful Dead."

Dead can Dance.  I am trying to see if anyone on the Shroomery shares my love for the group Dead Can Dance.  I have fallen in love with them.  I have two of their CD's:  Serpants Egg, and Aion, and *sigh* I can't express how much they've done for me.  The music is timeless...simply timeless...it has such an "ancient" feel to it.  A lot of it sounds how I imagine consciousness-heaven would be.  I listened to Dead Can Dance while tripping this past weekend and it...wow.  Such an emotional experience.  It was so hardcore.  I felt like I was in God's embrace completely.  The music is somber, wistful, but so achingly beautiful...

I can't get over Dead Can Dance.  I love those guys.  Give them a try one day when you think you might be tripping.

I was always partial to Serpent's Egg and Into the Labyrinth (my fave).

songs:

Yulunga (Spirit Dance)
The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove
Ullyses
The Host of Seraphim
Enigma of the Absolute
etc.

amazing band. extremely talented and musical. spiritual without being cliched.

by the way, get their Toward the Within live DVD to see them pull it off live and also to see interviews with Lisa and Brendan giving their insights on the music process amongst other things. very humbling. they're on a world tour now and will be coming to the US at some point so GO if they come anywhere near you. you won't regret it.

lastly, if you are especially curious about DCD and want a slight change of pace check out Lisa's solo work. she did the score for Whale Rider and has done some other things that are worth checking out. her solo work doesn't have the power of DCD but is pretty great in its own right.

I really like them, chillout with an ethnic taste. Into the Labyrinth is their best album imo. it also has a track which is in the movie baraka.

after they split, I also think they carried on with solo projects.
but I think they have got together for some shows in 2005,

DCD is definitely a classic IMO. Been around awhile. There's some nasty tribute material floating around out there...mainly stuff that's come from some Cleopatra recording artists.

What else do you listen to?

You should check out their solo work, especially Lisa Gerrard and Pieter Bourke's "The Mirror Pool".

just found dead can dance myself. :sun:
totally digging it for a night of smoking some good bud and listening...
myyyyyy god i love it.

was discussing them with this girl who informed me about romanticism
which i totally love and never knew it had its own genre..

i only thought it would be appropriate to bring this back because it was 1602 days dead and well... the dead can dance!

I think some of their music is featured in the film Baraka, very good stuff.  Wish I had complete albums. . .

Yeah dude I have all their albums. I think Aion is my favourite album but I forgot the name of the song in it what I like so much.
