The bottom layer of casing: Perlite or Vermic.???

My foaf has both. So its not a problem finding it. But, vermiculite is a bit more expensive considering the fact that this guy can't use perlite for anything else but moisture stuff is bothering him. Vermiculite is used for jars, topping the jars...etc. A lot is being used so....... my question for my foaf: He wants to know, "Would perlite bottom layer give same results? No hassels? Or is there a difference?"

Your best bet would be ...verm... . Perlite can create problems though some people do do it .

i use perlite for 3 reasons 1.) vermivulite is too precious for me top waste; its hard to get it hree this time of year; but should be available soon 2.) it works well; have only tried no bottom layer and perlite layer; seems to give better results when using a small layer about 1/2". 3.) if you mist; it just about eliminates over-watering; unless you really drench your casing. id go with perlite just because thast what i do; but both will suit the intended purpose well.

From what most experienced people say , perlite seems to be a better choice. Any comments about this conclusion?
