ok, so i looked at various ID guides, checked online pictures, looked at descriptions and spore prints and then checked everything four times over so im 100% sure i got it right, now i was wondering, if i ate one cap (p. stuntzii) just to make sure, how long would it take if i accidentally ate a poisonous variety for me to notice effects and would i even feel effects off only one cap? thanks for any help!

Around 1 day to a week, it could be enough to kill you. I believe stuntzii are weaker mushrooms, so no, 1 would not be enough for a trip. Did ya take a spore print? The only deadly mushroom i can think of that looks like P. stuntzii are the Galerinas, and they have a much different color spore print than P. stuntzii. Peace out, -Gumby

I heard that all mushrooms are poisonous, to one degree or another... My dad told me that right after I had eaten some sauted (sp) mushrooms. Is it true?

i know that it was not enough to trip, this was just a test to make sure it wasn't dangerous. the spore print matched those of stuntzii so i'm not that worried, i guess as long as i stay healthy, i'll be alright

No that's not true, Mygnyl. Before westerners ate fungi, they where all considered poison, but this is a extremely archaic way of thinking. Mushrooms have since become a staple part of the western diet. They are definately not all poison! All psilocybes, as far as I'm aware contain toxins which means that they are all poison to some degree. That's why people feel nausea after consuming them. They are not as toxic, however, as most other recreational drugs (even marijuana is more toxic). So there you go.

There is some truth in that all mushrooms are poisonous to a certain degree. The problem is in that they contain lots of proteins that are very strange to human body and can cause a response from immune system if ingested in large quantities. Even mushrooms that are edible for most people can cause allergic upset to those that are oversensitive. A nice example is Paxillus involutus that was once considered edible, but if ingested in large quantities may cause death because of immune system reaction. Galerinas contain amatoxins (like Amanita phalloides) that have very long incubation time (12h and more) and thats why they are so dangerous. When you notice symptoms is already too late (if you took enough). Anyway one galerina should not be lethal, you would get away with some liver and kidney damage. A deadly dose of Amanita phalloides is about 50 g of fresh mushroom.

Hey man, you really do have to be careful. First off there are more than 126 Psilocybe mushrooms which do not contain psilocine and/or psilocybine. Then there is the matter of Galerina steglichii. This is a psilocybian mushroom with no deadly amatoxins in them and they ae completely psychoactive. Then there are six species of Inocybe species which contain psilocine/psilocybine but contain no muscarine which is common in over 100 species of Inocybe. So watch what you eat. mj There are comparable pictures to P. stuntzii and P. cyanescens with two species of Galerina's posted at my site at: \ http://mjshroomer.yage.net/species.html click on poisonous-look-a-likes with the mouse to enter> mj
