YES! POISONOUS *DO* MUSHROOMS GROW ON DUNG. Please just do some reading. Educate yourself, then go hunting. People die from eating "just some mushroom that grew on dung." I hear www.shroomery.org is a great site for finding out about mushrooms. Just a rumor though. www.erowid.org is also great Your question has been answered, -GumbyEdited by GumbyDude on 08/15/01 01:07 AM.

There arent any that are dung lovers, but why just assume that just because a shroom is growing on cow shit, it's safe to eat and it'll make you trip? Doesn't that sound just rather stupid and ignorant? I remember either GG or Mitchnast posting an article about 2 kids a few months back, that picked a mushroom that grew on or near cow dung, and it turned out that it was Amanita virosa. One of the kids died, one of them had to have an emerency liver transplant from her mom. Was that the SC story? I believe it was. Peace out, -Gumby

MItch is absolutely right, MJ! If someone where to say, " There are no poisonous mushrooms that grow in dung, so go ahead and eat 'em and see if they're good!", You reply with something contradicting and mention some shroom you've seen in dung and prove them wrong. Hmmmmm...................................ego! Stay cool!-Levi7.

Only mushroom that I know of that shows up on dung and can be poisonous, is Coprinus atramentarius. Its only poisonous when alchohol is comsumed with, or even the day after the ingestion of the mushrooms. It is still a dumbass thing to go eating mushrooms that grow from dung hoping to come across a psilocybin mushroom. Most dung dwellers(including cubes and copes) taste like the shit they're growing on anyways. If you didn't pick a poisonous mushroom and die, you have to endure chomping on alot of nasty mushrooms, and probably still wouldn't find what your looking for. I say, if it stains blue and grows from dung and is a gilled mushroom, it is 100% positively a psilocybin active mushroom. The only active mushroom specie in PA. that might show up on cow or horse dung, is Panaeolus subbalteatus. This mushroom rarely stains blue, so you better read up before you go looking for it.

I have seen possibly around 50 different types (species) of mushroom growing directly from cow dung. Today alone I saw at least a dozen different mushrooms growing from cowdung. All white mushrooms with white veils included It is rare but it does happen The mushrooms sometimes may not grow Directly from the dung, but they can also grow from the ground underneath the shit and push up appearing as it is growing from dungg

Yeah, I forgot, I do see alot of Conocybes when I'm in the horse field subb picking. I don't think they grow directly form dung though, just on the well manured grounds.

well for me i dont find hallucinogenic shrooms on dung very often (the occasional Pan in wet weather) so what i call dung is usually a dung heap or a dung/straw heap. conocybes grow there, as do pans, some stropharias, psilocybes, coprinus, and some others i cant really place.
