...now its time to quit being a lazy fucker and just do it!!
I'm gonna learn to speak Spanish if it kills me! I will be visiting Spain at the end of October and it would be nice to have at least a limited knowledge of the language while there. And lets not forget that about 90% of the people I work with are Mexicans, about half of whom speak little to no English. They love to use their lack-of-communication skills to make my job more difficult at times (uhhhhh, no comprende, senor! ).
Perfect example, Some guy has his car parked in a spot on the job where it is in my way. I walk over and say "I need you to move your car." I get a blank stare and a "No habla." I point to his car and motion for him to move it. I get another blank stare and "No comprende." I usually have to stand there doing some ridiculous pantomime act and geting pissy before they will comply. But as soon as I got the "No habla" if I could ask the same question in Spanish without going into my stupid game of charades it would be much easier. And then they can't claim to not understand what I want.
So wish me luck, here goes nothing. And maybe with a little persistence I'll be speaking some broken Spanish before too long.

I refuse to learn more then Taco, Burritos, nachos, Fajitas,
Funny story,
I went to a mex place for dinner, I orders nachos and Fajitas,
I looked on the recite, and it said nachos and something else,
I went to correct it, but they said it was to late, and that is what I ordered,
I know this not to be true, cause I could not even pronounce it if I tried!!! there is no way that I could ever had said that, not in my vocabulary!!!
They corrected it begrudgingly

The Spanish language is fairly simple and easy to learn, and I find it's not difficult to pick up a lot in a very short amount of time. The only really difficult part aside from memorizing a lot of vocabulary words is verb conjugations, there's 15 or 20 something ways to form a verb, of which I know about 14. Good luck!

I've been wanting to check out that Rosetta Stone software for sometime. It seems like it would be a useful tool for learning a language.

Yeah, the Rosetta Stone software is supposed to be pretty good stuff. But I would never spend the time required to do it at home. However...I do spend a lot of time each day where I can listen un-disturbed to my CD player so I am going for audio-only lessons. The best seem to be the Pimsleur program so I'm gonna give that a try. I have about a 35 minute commute each way for work every day and I spend as much as 10 hours sitting in my backhoe each day also (which has a CD player). I can pretty much devote full-time energies to audio lessons if I want to.

*receipt
recite to speak aloud, generally from some sort of memorized passage
-------------------- Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? No, says the man in Washington; it belongs to the poor. No, says the man in the Vatican; it belongs to God. No, says the man in Moscow; it belongs to everyone. I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture. - Andrew Ryan

Reminds me of a rascist joke I heard about 10 years ago...
Q: What do a Mexican and a cue ball have in common? A: The harder you hit them the more english you get out of them.
