That was pretty cool....!
It prolly~ has to do with the placement of the source sound, and the resonance "shapes" on the surface(plate?) per the frequency of the sound.... 
Like a dropping a drip of water in a big pot, and the ripples bounce off the sides and back into each other....


I have had this video with cornstarch + water + vibrations = some really crazy/weird/neat effects....
It is a WMV file that I will try to attach to this post (if I can)....

This is one of the coolest things I had seen in a long time.....    :thumbup:
