Good Vibrations
    #3065726 -

I contend that "vibes" are totally about interpreting body language, vocal intonation and perhaps - pheremones; and that there is not mystical, vibrational detection occurring.

I would wager that a person in a dark, soundproof room cannot tell if someone on the other side of the wall is sending them "love" vibes or hate "vibes".

The proof is in the pudding.

I agree. If somebody is said to be giving off "good vibes", then I take it to mean that their actions, conscious and subconscious, are conducive to positive thought. In other words, it's easier to be happy around happy people rather than sad people. The subconscious part of the equation is often so subtle (yet important) that it is difficult to pinpoint and is thus reduced to the term "vibes" for the sake of facility.

No matter the reasoning for the sense, it is a sense nonetheless. I agree though that it is mainly based around body language. Basically, it's our subconscious minds picking up upon social patterns, such as - when person A uses this tone of voice, he usually has something positive to say. This doesn't mean 'vibes' aren't real though, or that they can't be beneficial to pick up on.

This is no doubt, but it is still a wonderful thing.

in order for that to be a valid test of the 'vibe theory', you would have to assume that both participants were in total control of their vibe reception and transmission.

I think it makes sense. But maybe some people are just more in touch with their vibe transmission than others.

I could use some help with my vibe transmission, actually.

GOOD VIBRATIONS
(Beach Boys)

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air

I?m pickin? up good vibrations
She?s giving me excitations
I?m pickin? up good vibrations
(oom bop bop good vibrations)
She?s giving me excitations
(oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(oom bop bop)
She?s giving me excitations
(oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(oom bop bop)
She?s giving me excitations
(oom bop bop excitations)

Close my eyes
She?s somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind
When I look in her eyes
She goes with me to a blossom world

I?m pickin? up good vibrations
She?s giving me excitations
I?m pickin? up good vibrations
(oom bop bop good vibrations)
She?s giving me excitations
(oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(oom bop bop)
She?s giving me excitations
(oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(oom bop bop)
She?s giving me excitations
(oom bop bop excitations)

(ahhhhhhh)
(ah my my what elation)
I don?t know where but she sends me there
(ah my my what a sensation)
(ah my my what elations)
(ah my my what)

Gotta keep those lovin? good vibrations
A happenin? with her
Gotta keep those lovin? good vibrations
A happenin? with her
Gotta keep those lovin? good vibrations
A happenin?

Ahhhhhhhh
Good good good good vibrations
(oom bop bop)
(I?m pickin? up good vibrations)
She?s giving me excitations
(oom bop bop)
(excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(oom bop bop)
She?s na na...

Na na na na na
Na na na
Na na na na na
Na na na
Do do do do do
Do do do
Do do do do do

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I contend that there is still an incredibly enormous pool of knowledge yet to be assimilated when it comes to defining the sensation of "vibes". Therefore, we should continue to push beyond the assumptions that any system of understanding is complete, let alone the systems of interaction that make up human social relationships.

From where I'm standing, the question isn't "Is there more to vibes than body language, vocal intonation and pheromones?". Of course there is more to it.

The question is, "How can we organize and assimilate the unchartered waters of experience?" Understanding, among other ways, comes through building structures of language around our raw experience. Seems like humans trying to push the boundary of how we define "vibes", among other things, is a worthy effort.
