I've read in the captains oven technique, and it meantions something about innoculating jars with mycellium. Here's what I'm speaking of - "I don't see many people innoculating jars with live mycellium either, but using this technique you can innoculate all you like with mycellium and it cuts colonization time down by 4-5 days. " Is this true? If so, I'd like to know how it is accomplished. Thanks

There are a few different ways to do this. One.... is to use part of a fully colonized cake. Two.... is to use club's honey water tek. Third... another way is to transfer colonized grain. If you would like more information on any of these....PM me or do some reading.

If your using a syringe, your methods may be a little limited. You can germinate spores in a mix of malt/water, honey/water or brf paste, and when they germinate its just a matter of hitting this solution with about 2-3mls per 100mls of h202 to clean it up. After it recovers, it will cut down your colonisation times by 4-5 days. Another method is cloning - where you you need to cut a sterile piece of mushroom tissue or myelia and transfer this to malt/water, honey/water, brf paste or agar. A good method is to cut an inside piece of stem and then dip this in h202, before transfering to your sterile liquid medium. Once this germinates, it needs to be hit with a larger ratio of h202 to guarantee sterility, then it can be sucked up into a syringe and used as an innoculant. Of course if your using grains, you can innoculate by adding in a sterile area, an agar wedge or tissue culture to your grain jars.

How many WBS pint jars can one fully colonized pint jar be divided into? I assume there is a minimum and possibly max. Thank!

Dude, you resurrected a thread that’s 16 years old.
But to answer your question, a lot. You only need a few colonized grains to start a new jar. More colonized grains, faster growth.
