Shroom Hunting in Cuba?

I'm heading down to Cuba on a musical exchange this Sunday evening ( ), and I was wondering if there are any psychoactive species of mushroom on the island. I'm staying in a small bodega outside of Havana for five days, then two days in a hotel in Pinar Del Rio. Anyone have knowledge of shrooms in Cuba, and around these areas? I heard somewhere that the name Psylocibe Cubensis was named because it was found in Cuba. Is this true?

I heard the same thing about Ps. cubensis, and with the climate they have in Cuba, I wouldn't be the least be supprised if they grew down there. Cope cyans are probaly there too. I'd watch out though, my guess is that they are illegal there as well... and being in Cuba, god knows what would happen. They might cut off your hands or jail you and beat you with a rake or something. Peace out, -Gumby

Yeah, I'm not really sure what the legality issue around shrooms down there is, but I'm sure it's pretty harsh (but I still want to find some!!!). I heard that weed possesion gets you an automatic 5 years in prison or something...kinda crappy, but they're communists.

Although Psilocybe cubensis was first reported from Cuba, it is found worldwide inthe troipics and neotropics of both hemispheres. As are all drugs in Cuba, mushrooms are highly illegal thanks to US policy worldwide. As for Cuba, It was also discovered at the exact same time by Patouillard in Tonkin (North Viet-nam) and named Naemataloma caerulescens, since the author did not know of the Cuban reoprt. Mj Yes Copelandia's may or may not grow there and that has not been noted yet. Some places have both and others do not. For instance, in Hawaii we have Copelandia mushrooms and no P. cubensis. In Samoa, Copelandia cyanescens and no P. cubensis. And in Fiji we have P. cubensis and no Copelandias. mj
