Perilite vs vermiculite

I couldn't find any vermiculite so I used perilite in the cakes. Will this have any negative effects on the growth of the mush? Thanks

I am afraid that it will have negative effects....
Perlite, hasnt got the water holding capabilty of vermiculite, and your cakes will soon dry out... :frown:

Try it out though, you never know.....but try to find some verm, or ask someone to send you some....or order some......or try alternative ways to grow.....or alternatives to vermiculite like chopped shponge and crazy stuff like that. I hear many shroomerites try all sorts of things.....Do a small investigation on older posts too.
You can always colonize millet cakes and use them to spawn other types of substrate...like pausterized straw for example......there are unlimited ways to grow shroOOooomz!
