Substituting vermiculite for perilite in PF technique
    #3949876 -

Hi All,

As I have been unable to find vermiculite locally, I was wondering if it was acceptable to use perilite instead to culture fungal mycelia.  I am planning on following the PF technique.  If perilite is unacceptable, could anyone recommend an online retailer for vermiculite.  I don't need 50lbs for what it's worth...

Thanks!

wal-mart in the southeast US didnt sell it today when i asked them. They did have perlite, so i have the same question.

Also, will harris teeter (commercialized grocer) let me use their cofee grinders to grind out my rice?

Wow so two of you have the same question, within minutes of eachother, and yet you dont think to search and see if anyone else has had this same question so we dont have to go through this every time someone cant find verm?

Verm is verm, there is no substitue. If you want more in depth answers, they can be found in a search so dont ask me "Well then what do I do" Or maybe someone will come by and pity you two...

I ran into the same thing recently guys (Wal-Mart & Home Depot is where I used to get it, but they no longer sell). So here's what I did. I grabbed my Yellow Pages, and looked up Garden Centers. I found the one that was located closest to my home and called and asked,"Do you have vermiculite". He said, "yeah". So I drove over there and got some.

"Six words: drop out, turn on, then come back and tune it in -and then drop out again, and turn on, and tune it back in-it's a rhythm- most of us think God made this universe in nature-subject object-predicate sentences-turn on, tune in, drop out- period, end of paragraph. Turn the page- it's all a rhythm- it's all a beat. You turn on, you find it inside, and then you have to come back (since you can't stay high all the time) and you have to build a better model. But don't get caught - don't get hooked - don't get attracted by the thing you're building, cause... you gotta drop out again. It's a cycle. Turn on, tune in, drop out. Keep it going, keep it going- the nervous system works that way. gotta keep it flowing- keep it flowing.

No harm can come from questioning. "Best" case scenerio: You prove it right without relying on the fact that it is widely accepted. Argument strengthened. "Worst" case scenerio: You realize you might have been wrong. The new answer might or might not be what you want to hear, but it beats defending yourself with bullshit.
