Lowest temp. that jars will colonize at?

My current house temp. is 20 degrees celcius. Will my jars still colonize at this temp. or is the temp. to low? I just don't feel like making a new incubator


Also, whats the lowest temp that mushrooms will grow at? I know my current house temp is a good temp for it, but would mushrooms still grow at say 14 degrees celcius?

temps need to be around 83f-ish

the lower the temperature the slower the growth will be. the elower you get the slower it grows so it will save time and moeny to just build an incubator

A TiT(tub in tub) is very east and pretty cheap. I use two smaller rubbermaid containers since all I do is pf-cakes right now. The most expensive part is the fully submersiable aquarium heater and they go for about 20-30 dollars in most pet stores. On top of the fridge in a dark box is another way to do it, most are pretty close to the right temp. Hope this helps.

14 is a bit low. They'll colonize at 20, but if you can get it up to 23-25, they'll go a lot faster. I agree about incubators. I hate them. You can run a small space heater in the room you colonize in if you need to bring it up a couple of degrees. 20 is fine for fruiting.

I hate incubators too, if its summer things should be fine, wrap some blankets, your good.

I love incubators they keep jars isolated and fairly clean and they are totally consistant at optimizing temps. I do hate blankets though as they are a haven for contams (FACT!) :wink:

Not if you have micro=pore tape,wash your blankets, and run a air purifier...But if you've got the cash/time go for it!
