Bluethumbs compost and spawnmate Q?

Just recieved the compost and spawnmate that I won. Dude will start it tomorrow. I have a question regarding the spawnmate though. By the name, I hope I am correct in first assuming that this is added at the same time as the compost is spawned, right? Should it be baked first or just added as is at spawning time, (IOW should dude be worried about introducing contams with it?). I saw on the Bluethumbs site that the recommended supplement is about 3-4% of the dry weight. Will it be counterproductive to add the entire .5 Lb of spawnmate to the 5 Lbs of compost?

We have used both ways adding it to the compost is IMHO is ok but adding it to the casing works beautiful.
I can't wait to finally have some pics posted thanks for doing so.
