Compost, casing, or both?
    #590985 - 03/27/02 11:55 AM (22 years, 26 days ago)

Hi:
This is my first time growing, so please bear with me.

I've been reading up on casing, but certain things are unclear:

I'm thinking of using Bluethumbs compost. I believe it's a 1 to 1 mix with substrate (From what I've read. Correct me if I am wrong.). Do I let it colonize fully and then add a layer of 50/50 casing and colonize that? Is this necesary, or is the compost fine by itself?

What are the best conditions for colonization?

If I use dung as compost, the same questions as above.

Thanks y'all

From what I understand, Dr. Bluethumb's is pretty much self-sufficient.
A casing is merely to provide the mousture required to induce pinning (if using grain substrate like brf or straw).
I'm sure an additional layer of 50/50 could be beneficial, though.
